I started my career at Xerox as a service technician, working behind the scenes.
Sales? No way. That was for the loud, charismatic, extroverted people who could tell jokes on command.
But my HR VP, David saw something different in me that I couldn’t yet see in myself.
He said, “Customers are changing. They want someone to help them, not someone to sell to them.”


That idea quietly but powerfully stuck with me.
I knew my product better than anyone.
I loved solving problems and helping people.
I wanted a better future for my young family.


At the time, my daughter was four years old, and my son was just a newborn.
My wife and I had left the comfort of our extended family behind to chase a bigger dream.
We found ourselves alone in a big city, starting from scratch, fueled only by hope and determination.

Everything changed after that realization.

Incredibly, I went on to become rookie of the year and top salesperson.
One year, I even earned $1 million in commission.

Looking back now, traditional sales training nearly broke me before it built me.
We were taught to be aggressive.
